Grünewaldstraße Parking Lot | Parking & Motorhome Parking
The Grünewaldstraße parking lot in Bayreuth is more than just a simple parking spot for vehicles: it connects a quiet, green location at the Volksfestplatz with proximity to the historic city center and practical services for motorhomes. Those who stop here have a location suitable for both a short stop and a longer city break. According to Bayreuth Tourism, the site is located at Grünewaldstraße 2B, directly at the Wilhelminenaue landscape park and about a 15 to 20-minute walk from the historic center. This makes the site appealing to people who want to experience Bayreuth as easily as possible without getting caught up in the dense crowds of parking garages or the city center. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
At the same time, the place is clearly functional and geared towards the needs of campers and mobile guests. Official information states that free use is allowed for up to 72 hours with a parking disc, a sanitation station with water supply and disposal, as well as electricity at certain spots. The combination of nature, city access, and infrastructure makes the site particularly interesting for motorhome travelers, especially if one wants to use Bayreuth as a starting point for a walk, a visit to the thermal baths, or a relaxed city stroll. The city also generally points out that Bayreuth has a large number of public and private parking spaces within a short distance to the city center. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
Location at the Volksfestplatz and directly at the Wilhelminenaue
The location is one of the biggest advantages of this site. The official tourism site locates the Grünewaldstraße parking lot at the Volksfestplatz and directly at the Wilhelminenaue landscape park. This creates a mix of city proximity and generous open space, which is not often found in central areas. For travelers, this means: the city center can be easily reached on foot, but at the same time, there is a less hectic environment than in the dense zones around pedestrian areas or large parking garages. This combination is attractive for many guests who are traveling with a motorhome or just want to park their car for a short visit. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
The site is not described by Bayreuth Tourism as an anonymous edge parking lot but as part of an attractive environment that connects nature, leisure, and urban functions. The Wilhelminenaue represents green spaces and walking paths, while the Volksfestplatz is a well-known event area in the cityscape. Those who park here not only get a parking space but also a practical starting point for different daily plans. This could be a short walk into the city, a visit to the thermal baths, a stroll along the green axis of the Red Main, or a stop before continuing through Upper Franconia. Especially for people who do not want to be on the road all day, this location is very efficient. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
Historically interesting is also that the site was upgraded in connection with the State Garden Show in 2016. Local reports describe the area of Grünewaldstraße as a parking space that was better developed as part of this urban development. This explains why the place today appears significantly more structured than an ordinary leftover strip at the roadside. The site was not randomly chosen as a motorhome location but benefits from a planning background that has more thoughtfully considered Bayreuth's green spaces and event axes. For visitors, this is a plus because function and environment match, making the use more pleasant. ([bayreuther-tagblatt.de](https://www.bayreuther-tagblatt.de/nachrichten-meldungen-news/gruenewaldstrasse-gute-zeiten-fuer-wohnmobil-fahrer/?utm_source=openai))
Free parking for up to 72 hours: Rules, parking disc, and reservation
A central area of interest regarding this place is the topic of parking itself. Here, the situation is clear: Bayreuth Tourism currently lists the Grünewaldstraße parking lot as non-reservable and free for up to 72 hours with a parking disc. This makes the site particularly interesting for flexible arrivals. Those who are not dependent on a fixed booking and can live with a straightforward solution will find a pragmatic parking space with clear rules here. Especially for short stays, weekend trips, or stopovers, this is a noticeable advantage because no prior coordination is necessary. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
The city of Bayreuth also describes its entire city center parking as very extensive: within 500 meters of the city center, there are over 6,000 public and private parking spaces in parking garages, underground garages, parking lots, and along the streets. Additionally, there is mobile parking via EasyPark and free parking options for vehicles with electric license plates on public city areas, provided the local rules are observed. For the Grünewaldstraße parking lot, this means in context: it is an attractive, low-cost option in a city that generally has a very wide range of parking offers. So, if you do not want to drive directly into a central parking garage, you can consciously opt for a straightforward, clear solution here. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/rathaus-buergerservice/verkehr-oepnv/parken-in-der-innenstadt/?utm_source=openai))
This place is particularly important on days with high occupancy. Bayreuth points out for the Volksfest and open-air environment that traffic disruptions should be expected in the area and that visitors should use the designated parking spaces and parking garages. For certain major events, shuttle solutions are even set up, for example, from the University of Bayreuth campus to the area at the Volksfestplatz. Additionally, specific parking spaces for the disabled are explicitly designated at the Grünewaldstraße parking lot during certain events. This shows that the location is not only a quiet parking space but also part of the city's event logic. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/kalkbrenner-open-air-diese-verkehrsregeln-gelten/?utm_source=openai))
Water, disposal, and electricity for motorhomes
Those arriving with a motorhome pay special attention to supply issues. This is where the Grünewaldstraße parking lot excels: Bayreuth Tourism explicitly mentions water supply and disposal at the site. The fee is 1.00 Euro per 50 liters of water and 1.00 Euro for the cassette toilet. Additionally, the municipal city construction yard confirms that the sanitation station of the motorhome parking lot at the Grünewaldstraße parking lot can be used for the acceptance of wastewater and that fresh water can also be filled there. Thus, the place is not just a parking lot but a practical stop for vehicles that rely on self-sufficiency in everyday life. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
The electricity supply is also sensibly arranged. According to Bayreuth Tourism, electricity is available at some spots in the parking lot. The official information states 1 Euro for 2 hours, executed via coin insertion, with 1-Euro coins required and only one coin can be inserted at a time. This simple technology fits well with a place that is more focused on uncomplicated use than on luxurious amenities. For travelers, this means: they can use electricity if needed but do not have to rely on a complex booking or billing solution. Especially for short stays, this is often the most pleasant option. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
In the larger Bayreuth context, there are also other options for motorhome travelers. Bayreuth Tourism mentions, in addition to Grünewaldstraße, the motorhome parking lot at the Lohengrin Therme, where paid parking spaces with supply and disposal are available directly next to the thermal baths and sanitary facilities are available for a small fee during opening hours. So, if you prefer more comfort or a different location, you will find a sensible alternative. However, the Grünewaldstraße parking lot remains the practical, everyday solution for guests who want to combine free or very inexpensive parking days with basic supply. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
City center, Wilhelminenaue, and leisure: what is around the parking lot
The proximity to the city center makes the Grünewaldstraße parking lot particularly interesting for all those who want to experience Bayreuth not just as a transit point but as a place to stay. Bayreuth Tourism states the walking distance to the historic center is about 15 to 20 minutes. This is short enough to leave the car and explore the city on foot, and long enough to experience a real perspective shift between the parking space and the old town. This makes the place suitable for a city stroll, a café visit, shopping, or a relaxed evening walk without searching for parking in the center. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
The location is also exciting from a landscape perspective. Bayreuth Tourism refers to the special landscapes of the Fichtelgebirge and the Franconian Switzerland as well as the Eremitage with its historic park facilities in the vicinity of the motorhome parking spaces. Even if these destinations are not directly on Grünewaldstraße, they show how well Bayreuth works as a starting point for short and longer excursions. Those who stand at the site thus have not only a parking space but also access to a city that can connect culture, garden architecture, and nature into a very compact travel route. This mix makes Bayreuth very pleasant for many guests. ([bayreuth-tourismus.de](https://www.bayreuth-tourismus.de/uebernachten/wohnmobilstellplaetze/?utm_source=openai))
Additionally, the role of the Volksfestplatz as an event location should be noted. The area is regularly part of folk festivals, open-air events, and other major events, so the parking lot has a lively urban side depending on the season. For visitors, this is exciting on one hand because events are directly nearby. On the other hand, one should expect more traffic on such days and pay attention to the city's notices. This is especially important if arriving late or traveling with a larger vehicle. The environment is thus not only beautifully located but also functionally closely linked to the event and leisure life of Bayreuth. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/bayreuther-volksfest-startet-am-6-juni/?utm_source=openai))
Access, traffic, and sensible alternatives in Bayreuth
When accessing, one should keep in mind the event character of the environment. The city of Bayreuth points out in its traffic regulations around major events that arriving in the area of the Volksfestplatz can lead to traffic jams and detours. For certain dates, shuttle parking spaces, taxi stands, and special disabled parking spaces are organized. Therefore, those aiming for the Grünewaldstraße parking lot should not only know the address but also check the respective day's situation. Especially during folk festivals, open-air events, or other mass events, it is advisable to plan a bit more time and to follow the signs consistently. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/kalkbrenner-open-air-diese-verkehrsregeln-gelten/?utm_source=openai))
A particularly helpful alternative nearby is the Oberfrankenhalle/Sportpark parking garage. The city utilities of Bayreuth list 730 parking spaces there, continuous opening hours, and a clearance height of 2.10 meters. The parking garage is thus an important alternative for anyone looking for a reliably calculable parking space with protection from the weather and clear pricing. For normal city visits, this can be a good addition, while the Grünewaldstraße parking lot scores when the focus is on low-cost use and motorhome services. Those arriving with a high vehicle should, of course, check the respective height specifications in advance. ([stadtwerke-bayreuth.de](https://www.stadtwerke-bayreuth.de/bus-parken/parken/parkhaeuser-parkplaetze?utm_source=openai))
In summary, the Bayreuth parking space shows that the city is prepared for different needs. The city center offers a large network of parking spaces, there is mobile parking with EasyPark, public spaces for electric license plates, and separate solutions for motorhomes. This is exactly why the Grünewaldstraße parking lot can be understood as a particularly balanced choice: inexpensive, close to the center, with supplies for campers and in an environment that also plays a role during events. This is not a glamorous but a very practical address, and therein lies its strength. For many travelers, it is thus one of the most reasonable options in Bayreuth.
Excellent parking space, quietly situated on the banks of the Red Main River. Centrally located, approximately 2.5 km to the old town and about 2.5 km in the other direction to the Emirates Park. Waste disposal and electricity available. Everything was spotlessly clean, even though it was completely full of vehicles. We were there on a Monday in July.
