Unterhaching celebrates in stoppage time: Big points in the promotion race

SpVgg Unterhaching won a fluctuating match 3:2 against SpVgg Bayreuth on matchday 31 of the Regionalliga Bayern. Bayreuth took an early lead, Unterhaching turned the game around before the break with two set pieces, before the hosts equalized after the change of sides. The decision came deep in stoppage time: Alexander Winkler scored in the 90+8 minute to secure the away win.

Bayreuth starts strong, Unterhaching responds before the break

Bayreuth got off to the better start and took the lead in the 4th minute: Deniz Koc scored after a corner to make it 1:0.

Unterhaching stabilized afterwards and equalized in the 26th minute. After a handball by Alexander Seidel, Jeroen Krupa converted the resulting penalty to make it 1:1. Shortly before the break, Unterhaching again took advantage of a set piece: Manuel Stiefler headed in after a corner in the 45th minute to make it 2:1. Thus, Unterhaching had turned the game around before the halftime whistle – both goals came from dead balls.

Bucher equalizes in style

After the break, Bayreuth came back – again with a corner as the starting point. Unterhaching's defense initially cleared forward, but Leon Bucher reacted the fastest, took the ball directly and volleyed it in from 25 meters to make it 2:2.

The equalizer matched the open character of the match: Bayreuth stayed in the game after the renewed setback and continued to look for their moments. Before the match, the hosts had built up a cushion of nine points ahead of the relegation places.

Winkler scores late and secures Unterhaching the win

In the final phase it remained hard-fought, with neither team able to gain clear advantages at first. The decision came very late: Alexander Winkler scored the 3:2 for Unterhaching in the 90+8 minute, making the away win perfect.

For Unterhaching, these are important points in the promotion race, as the team won a match that threatened to tip several times and was only decided in stoppage time. Bayreuth remains on 37 points despite the defeat and stays in 12th place in the table.
