Evening Earth History with Summit View: The GEO-Picnic at Goldberg
This guided GEO tour combines nature experience, local history, and an atmospheric picnic high above Goldkronach. On Sunday, June 28, 2026, geopark ranger Annette Taubenreuther will take interested participants on an earth history hike to the summit of Goldberg. Along the way, wide views open up to landscape forms that tell stories of fault zones, old mining traces, and the long development of the Fichtelgebirge.
Geology to Touch at a Historic Site
Goldberg is one of the places where earth history becomes visible. Here, ancient underwater landscapes, plates, and fault blocks meet - an impressive outdoor classroom for all those interested in geology, mining history, and cultural heritage. The tour thus leads not only into nature but into a lively discovery experience between rock, forest, and mining history.
A Sunset Moment with a View
As evening approaches, the route unfolds its special atmosphere. The light becomes softer, the landscape stands out more vividly, and at the summit, a quiet place emerges for the picnic moment. Participants should bring their own food and pack a seating pad. As a little surprise, a special accent awaits the group.
Practical Information for Participation
The tour lasts about 3 to 3.5 hours and starts at the small hiking parking lot with Nordic walking sign at the back of Goldberg in 95497 Goldkronach. The way there follows the signs to the visitor mines, passes the info house, and reaches the parking lot after about 800 meters. Registration is required and can be done by phone or online until June 26, 2026. Participation is not planned without registration.
Goldkronach as a Stage for Mining and Cultural History
Goldkronach is closely linked to gold mining, the traces of Alexander von Humboldt, and the historical development of the region. The environment of the tour thus opens up much more than beautiful viewpoints: it shows a landscape in which geology, city history, and cultural identity are closely intertwined. This very connection makes the event a special cultural enrichment for guests and locals.
Conclusion: The GEO-Picnic at the Summit is ideal for anyone seeking a guided hike with landscape experiences, regional history, and geological depth. Those wishing to discover Goldkronach from a new perspective should secure a spot now.
