Situated on the plateau above the Ailsbachtal, the castle is located in the Franconian Switzerland, not far from the A9 and in the city triangle of Nuremberg-Bamberg-Bayreuth. Visitors will find 22 stylishly designed hotel rooms, 10 event rooms, a castle restaurant, the estate tavern with beer garden, a large outdoor area with hiking trails, and further attractions such as the Sophienhöhle and falconry. Events, Tickets, and the Entire Annual Program at Castle Rabenstein

Those looking for castle rabenstein events or castle rabenstein Veranstaltungen 2026 will find an astonishingly wide program on the website. The castle focuses on dinner shows, themed evenings, concerts, and culinary experiences throughout the year. This includes four-course menus with crime performances, dinner-meets-magic, whisky dinners, wild boar grill buffets, and castle concerts in the grand hall or Renaissance hall. According to the official event page, tickets can be conveniently booked online; the offerings cater to both day visitors and those who consciously want to experience an evening in a historical setting. The mix of music, culinary delights, and atmosphere is particularly strong: At Castle Rabenstein, classic formats meet Celtic sounds, Franconian dialect, and festive special evenings. The concert page also shows that the program in the 2026 season will be regularly filled with new dates, including St. Patrick’s Day Festival, opera arias, salon music, piano formats, blues cabaret, and Advent concerts. This makes the castle a location that can be visited not only occasionally but continuously. For search queries like castle rabenstein Veranstaltungen 2026 or castle rabenstein events, it is particularly relevant that the castle officially maintains a very active event calendar, making it a destination for culture fans, connoisseurs, and group travelers alike. ([burg-rabenstein.de](https://www.burg-rabenstein.de/events))

The special strength of the event offerings lies in the combination of a historical setting and professional event structure. While many castles only occasionally offer programs, Castle Rabenstein strategically utilizes its facilities for different formats: intimate concerts, culinary evenings, weddings, conferences, and themed events. For visitors, this means that they can consciously choose a different experience depending on the occasion: a classic concert evening, a sociable dinner in the castle restaurant, a large celebration, or an excursion with several components. The booking logic is also designed for planning, as tickets can be secured in advance, and online systems are available for many formats. This is important for guests who want to combine their journey to Franconian Switzerland with clear planning of food, tours, and programs. Particularly valuable for SEO is the close connection of events with the other attractions of the castle. Those searching for events do not receive an isolated event hall but a complete experience of castle, nature, falconry, cave, and gastronomy. This combination makes Castle Rabenstein so distinctive as an event location. ([burg-rabenstein.de](https://www.burg-rabenstein.de/events))

Medieval Market at Castle Rabenstein: Dates, Program, and Visiting Tips

A central keyword around the castle is castle rabenstein medieval market, and for good reason: The medieval market is one of the most well-known events at the site. According to the official market page, in 2026, there will be two time travels to the Middle Ages, from June 4 to 7 and from July 31 to August 2. A comprehensive program is offered with action artists, jugglers, medieval field battles, staged fights, puppet theater for children, and large fire shows in the evening. Historical groups from all over Germany camp in front of the castle backdrop, while merchants and craftsmen visibly showcase old trades: blacksmiths, turners, bathers, basket weavers, tin casters, spoon carvers, and other traditional crafts are part of the experience. On the market grounds, children and adults can even try their hand at felting, blacksmithing, or woodworking. Additionally, archery tournaments and medieval music are included. The official website also calls the market the largest and most popular medieval market in Northern Bavaria, which explains the significance of this search term very well. ([burg-rabenstein.de](https://www.burg-rabenstein.de/ausflugsspass/mittelaltermaerkte/?utm_source=openai))

For planning, the details are as important as the program. Advance sales end on the day of the visit at 9:00 AM, so tickets should be secured early. Different admission prices apply on site, and entry is free for children under one meter. Particularly practical: Free parking is available just a few minutes' walk from the market grounds. Dogs on leashes are also allowed, which is relevant for families and day trippers. Admission is valid for the entire day; visitors can leave the grounds with a stamp and re-enter later. This is a significant advantage for families, groups, and day visitors, as it allows them to flexibly combine their market visit with breaks, meals, or a detour into the surroundings. For SEO regarding castle rabenstein Veranstaltungen 2026, castle rabenstein medieval market, and castle rabenstein parking, it is crucial that the castle not only provides a historical ambiance here but also a fully organized festival experience with clear times, ticket logic, and visitor comfort. Falconry, Sophienhöhle, and Nature Paradise in Ailsbachtal

The search interest in castle rabenstein falconry is closely linked to one of the strongest unique selling points of the complex. Directly at the castle lies the Falconry Castle Rabenstein as a state-recognized zoological institution with a bird of prey and owl park. The official site states the location Rabenstein 33 in Ahorntal and describes the facility as part of the Franconian Switzerland. Here, native birds of prey and owls are presented in a nature-related environment; according to MICE information, over 80 birds live there. Opening hours and prices are regulated seasonally: From April to October, the bird park is open Wednesday to Friday and also Tuesday during Bavarian holidays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The flight demonstration takes place Wednesday to Sunday at 3:00 PM, also on Tuesdays during Bavarian holidays. From November to March, the falconry is closed. For families, groups, and nature lovers, this is an essential component of the overall offering. ([falknerei-rabenstein.de](https://www.falknerei-rabenstein.de/anfahrt))

Equally important for visit planning is the Sophienhöhle, which makes Castle Rabenstein a special destination in Franconian Switzerland. According to the official site, the cave is only about a ten-minute walk from the castle and is described as one of the most beautiful still-active stalactite caves in Germany. It can be visited as part of guided tours or during Sophie at Night; exclusive tours for groups are also possible. Particularly remarkable are the underground rooms, which are characterized by stalagmites, sinter flags, and impressive lighting effects. However, the cave is neither accessible on the way nor inside for those with disabilities. The information about the cave also points to a unique cave bear skeleton that has been prominently displayed since 2011. For families, hikers, and cultural travelers, the combination of castle, falconry, and cave is an extraordinary mix that explains why search queries like castle rabenstein franconian switzerland, castle rabenstein falconry, and castle rabenstein photos are often associated with experience, nature, and photographic motifs. Those planning a day at Castle Rabenstein can ideally combine these offerings. ([burg-rabenstein.de](https://www.burg-rabenstein.de/ausflugsziel/sophienhoehle))

History, Rooms, and the Special Role as an Event Location

The historical depth of Castle Rabenstein begins according to the official representation around 1188. The first building was constructed in the last quarter of the 12th century on the foremost rock outcrop, initially under Eschwin de Rabenstein; in 1219 the Schlüsselberg family took over, and later the buildings were expanded under the ministerial family Groß von Trockau. In 1349, the Burgraves of Nuremberg came to the complex. In later centuries, the castle changed owners again before the property was shaped by a baroque castle expansion in 1830; in that year, King Ludwig I of Bavaria and his wife Theresia were guests. Hidden gem and a definite must visit if you're in the area. There's a restaurant and falconry show just outside the castle, parking is free but inside the castle is where the fun begins. This castle is still in use as a beautiful hotel and it has a great restaurant within it. Beautiful views inside and out. You can purchase tickets at the entrance but they recommend you buy them online. Tours are in German only, but it's still worth it! Throughout the year they have multiple events like medieval markets, dinner shows, whiskey tastings, so you'll want to always go back for more!

I finally stayed at Schloss Ritter, the castle from Gabriel Knight - the Beast Within! It's a wonderful place, very modern hotel rooms despite the castle being 800 years old. Very reasonable rates. The front desk lady, I didn't catch her name but remember she was saying her husband is Russian I think and she has 3 boys - she was super sweet and accommodating and really fun to talk to. One negative is that wifi is not great, which I guess makes sense having to go through those thick castle walls.

Lovely old castle with nice spacious rooms. The only disappointment was the fact that they notified us by email after we had booked it that the Dining Room would be unavailable for hotel guests for both nights due to a pre-booked dinner and a closing day on the Monday which forced us to drive to the nearest restaurant.
