Italian Opera as a Lively Journey Through Music and History

When the curtain rises on Italian opera at RW21, a special journey of discovery begins: The four-part series by vhs Bayreuth connects musical highlights with cultural-historical insights and invites you to experience this great art form from a new perspective.

Opera History on the Great Internal Stage

The focus is on excerpts from important Italian operas, which are shown with German subtitles. Thus, singing, dramatic action, and historical context meet directly. The event makes audible and visible how closely Italian opera is connected to the cultural history of the country.

Understanding and Enjoying Music Theater

The introduction is provided in simple explanations in Italian and German. This creates an accessible approach to musical forms, dramatic contexts, and the historical meanings of the works presented. The dramaturgy of the series combines focused knowledge transfer with the sensory experience of great opera moments.

Learning Italian Through the Means of Stage Art

The opera here also becomes a linguistic space. Sound, rhythm, and scenic expression support understanding and open up a playful opportunity to learn Italian. It is precisely this connection of language course, music history, and music theater that gives the series its distinctive character.

An Evening for Curious Opera Lovers

The four course days take place once a month through the world of Italian opera: on October 30, November 27, and December 18, 2026, as well as January 29, 2027. The inaugural event begins at 5 PM and is expected to last until 7 PM. The format is aimed at adults and seniors; there is no age restriction.

The stage experience does not arise solely from the excerpts shown. It grows from the connection of acoustics, language, musical gesture, and historical explanation. Those who have known opera primarily as a magnificent evening event will discover its workshop here: the voices, the stories, the cultural traces.

Conclusion: An Invitation to Listen, See and Understand

The series offers a concentrated and enjoyable approach to Italian opera. Visitors can expect a cultural-historical opera course with musical excerpts, bilingual explanations, and many ideas for their own listening. Those who want to experience Italian opera live and knowledgably will find an inspiring introduction at RW21.
