Cinema Africa 2026/27: Dao takes Bayreuth on a moving family journey

Dao: A cinematic journey between Europe and West Africa

On Monday, November 9, 2026, Cinema Africa 2026/27 presents the French drama film Dao at Cineplex Bayreuth. The screening starts at 8:00 PM and will be shown in the original French version with subtitles.

A family story full of movement

At the center are Gloria and Nour, who meet at a film casting and become mother and daughter in front of the camera. From the play emerges a growing family that celebrates a lavish wedding in Paris and then travels to Guinea-Bissau to bid farewell to their family head.

Between ritual, memory, and present

Dao connects Europe and West Africa, joy of life and farewell, past and present. True stories and invented narratives intertwine to create a drama about belonging, love, and the power of family relationships.

Cinema experience at Cineplex Bayreuth

The 193-minute Cinema Africa screening takes place in cinema 8 of Cineplex Bayreuth. Modern audio-visual technology, the concentrated atmosphere of the cinema hall, and the original French version create the perfect setting for this intense arthouse experience.
