Understanding 3D Printing and Experiencing Your First Print
How does a digital idea become a tangible object? The VHS course at FabLab Bayreuth offers a hands-on introduction to 3D printing using Fused Deposition Modeling on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Between 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM, participants will experience the journey from the source file format to the prepared printing process in the open high-tech workshop of Upper Franconia.
From Digital Model to Finished Workpiece
The course teaches the fundamentals of FDM 3D printing: Initially, it addresses what 3D printing can technically achieve and how to prepare a digital model for production. Subsequently, participants will learn to create a source file, prepare the file for printing, and properly set up the 3D printer.
Hands-On Learning at FabLab Bayreuth
The event is planned with a small learning group of a maximum of six people. This fosters a focused working atmosphere with room for questions, practical steps, and individual feedback. A Bambu P1S with AMS will be used. A personal laptop is not required for participation; basic PC knowledge will make the entry easier.
Materials Included and Group Wrap-Up
The event experience also includes a practical conclusion: The first 3D print can be taken home, and the material cost is already included in the ticket. A feedback session concludes the workshop and provides an opportunity to reflect on personal experiences from the printing process.
Technology Explained Clearly
FabLab Bayreuth stands for low-threshold access to modern technology and the democratization of high-tech. The course combines a comprehensible introduction, concrete application, and professional event organization. It is aimed at curious beginners who want to learn about 3D printing not just theoretically but also through personal experience.
Conclusion: The VHS course offers a compact and practical introduction to the Fused Deposition Modeling process. Those who wish to transform digital models into real objects and learn the basics of a modern 3D printer will experience an eventful evening at FabLab Bayreuth with a visible outcome.
