Sparking Stars, Creative Fabrics and a Self-Sewn Unique Piece
On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the FabLab Bayreuth will transform into a creative patchwork workshop. Under expert guidance, participants will create the top of a small patchwork blanket with simple stars – festive, cheerful, and individually designed.
Sewing Stars Without Complicated Detours
The course offers an easily accessible alternative to traditional star patterns. Instead of demanding that every corner meet exactly, participants will learn a simple basic principle that can be implemented both symmetrically and freely improvised. This will result in personal patterns with their own signature.
From Fabric Block to Quilt Dream
A top made from three or four blocks, the decorative patchwork upper side of a small blanket, will be sewn. The later processing into a complete quilt will be done independently. Those who want to continue working right away can do so afterwards at the Bayreuth Quilters' Meeting under guidance.
Creative Work in the Open High-Tech Workshop
FabLab Bayreuth combines practical learning, collaborative work, and modern workshop culture. For the workshop, yarns, cutters, cutting mats, irons, ironing pads, and patchwork rulers will be available. Fabrics can be purchased for a donation.
What Participants Should Bring
Participants need to bring various patchwork fabrics, including a base fabric of about 35 centimeters by fabric width, as well as pins, a seam ripper, a small pair of scissors, and preferably their own patchwork supplies. Those who are not allowed to use a FabLab sewing machine with machine license should bring their own sewing machine with power cord and foot pedal. A new size 80 to 90 needle and the operating instructions are recommended.

The manageable group size allows for personal support and focused work. In the inspiring event atmosphere of the textile area, event planning, craftsmanship expertise, and creative exchange come together. The result is not only a completed fabric design but an individual project with a visible personal touch.
