Science Against Fascism: Bayreuth Discusses Democracy and Responsibility
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the FZA – Research Center Africa at the University of Bayreuth will become a venue for an engaged scientific debate. The evening will combine three keynote lectures with questions, discussions, and personal exchanges. Members of the university, as well as the interested public, are expressly invited.
Three Perspectives on Current Threats
The evening will kick off with Prof. Kristin Skottki from Medieval History, Dr. Samira Marty from Social and Cultural Anthropology, and Prof. Joël Glasman from African History. Their contributions will illuminate different facets of the topic and create a solid foundation for joint dialogue.
Between White Supremacy, Solidarity, and Neutrality
The focus will be on questions that extend far beyond university life: Why are White Supremacy and so-called ethnopluralism dangerous for everyone? How does solidarity change in the process of fascization? And must science be neutral? The presentations will open up a challenging event format with societal relevance.
Open Exchange in a Concentrated Atmosphere
After the lectures, there will be room for questions, discussions, and exchanges. The mood among the audience thrives on direct conversation and different perspectives. Snacks and drinks will round off the evening and provide an opportunity to continue the topics in a personal atmosphere.
Classification and Event Experience
As part of the series Science Against Fascism, the evening focuses on expertise, critical reflection, and a culture of democratic debate. The organization by the student council KuWi and the involvement of Students Against the Right Bayreuth combine scientific event planning with a clear targeting of students, university employees, and interested citizens.
Conclusion: Sharing Knowledge, Showing Attitude
Visitors can expect an informative evening of lectures with three academic impulses, open questions, and space for encounters. Those who wish to understand current societal developments and actively shape democratic discussions will experience a profound evening at the FZA Bayreuth. Admission is free.
