Old Town Pool Bayreuth | Opening Hours & Photos

The Old Town Pool Bayreuth is one of those outdoor pools that you not only visit but also associate with a place. It is located on Fantaisiestraße in the Bayreuth district of Old Town and has been a summer meeting point for families, children, teenagers, and anyone who appreciates an uncomplicated, free swim with plenty of greenery for many years. The city of Bayreuth describes the facility as traditional, locally rooted, and closely connected to the city's leisure feeling. Particularly striking is the combination of a manageable pool, a spacious sunbathing area, plenty of shade from old trees, and a large play area that has been noticeably upgraded in recent years. The season currently starts on May 22, 2026, and the regular opening hours follow a family-friendly pattern with extended hours on weekends, holidays, and during vacation periods. This mix of tradition, cost-free access, and practical usability makes the Old Town Pool Bayreuth a topic of interest for anyone looking for opening hours, photos, parking, and special features. Current Opening Hours of the Old Town Pool Bayreuth

Those who want to visit the Old Town Pool Bayreuth are almost always first interested in the opening hours. The municipal information is very clear here: With the start of the outdoor pool season, the facility usually opens daily except Mondays from 12 to 19 hours. During vacation times as well as on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, the pool opens as early as 10 hours. For the current season, the city of Bayreuth also reported that the Old Town Pool will start its swimming season on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 12 hours. This information is important because the pool is not an indoor pool open year-round but a classic outdoor facility whose visit heavily depends on the weather and the season. Therefore, anyone planning an outing should always consider the weather and not rely on rigid seasonal patterns but heed the seasonal notices from the city. This is particularly crucial for families and people with flexible daily plans because the Old Town Pool is deliberately geared towards a relaxed summer operation. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/rathaus-buergerservice/rathaus-aktuell/?utm_source=openai))

The opening hours also show how well the Old Town Pool is tailored to the needs of visitors. During the week, the facility opens a bit later to fit into the daily routine of school, work, and afternoon leisure. On weekends, holidays, and during vacation periods, operations begin earlier because particularly many families and day-trippers come then. In practice, this means: If you want to swim, play, or simply lie in the shade in the morning, you have a good chance of an early start, especially on free days. The city also explicitly points out that the pool remains closed in bad weather. This makes sense for a facility like the Old Town Pool because the outdoor offering with sunbathing area, play area, and pool thrives on sunny, pleasant days. Therefore, for the search intent around "Old Town Pool Bayreuth opening hours," not only the time is relevant but also the combination of season start, vacation regulations, and weather-dependent opening. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/tourismus-kultur-freizeit/freizeit-sport-gesundheit/baeder/))

Entry, Prices, and Services at the Old Town Pool

A central feature of the Old Town Pool Bayreuth is free entry. This clearly distinguishes the facility from many other outdoor pools and is one of the main reasons why the pool is so popular with families and spontaneous summer visits. The official pool page of the city explicitly states that entry is free. This turns a normal visit to the outdoor pool into a low-threshold outing that can be made spontaneously without ticket purchase and without price consideration. This cost-free access is also relevant for the search query about "Old Town Pool Bayreuth prices," as the clear answer here is: There is no regular entry fee, but free access during the open season. For many visitors, this is a real advantage because it makes the pool particularly practical for everyday use and suitable for short visits after work or on weekends. The price factor is therefore not just a detail but a central part of the positioning of the Old Town Pool as an open, community-oriented outdoor pool. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/tourismus-kultur-freizeit/freizeit-sport-gesundheit/baeder/))

The free entry is complemented by a service offering that has been specifically improved in recent years. The city of Bayreuth reports on lockers for valuables, a drinking fountain, a changing table, and a wheelchair-accessible changing room. Additionally, there are expanded seating and lounging options that make the stay more pleasant and keep the pool attractive for longer visits. As early as 2024, it was also noted that there are two changing rooms on the premises and that the sunbathing area has been newly seeded and leveled. This shows that the Old Town Pool is not only viewed as a nostalgic facility but as a functioning leisure place that is continuously maintained and adapted to modern requirements. For visitors looking for an uncomplicated outdoor pool with practical details, this is important: It’s not just about swimming but about a comfortable stay with storage, changing options, and small but helpful service elements. Photos, Play Area, and Family Offers

Those searching for "Old Town Pool photos" usually want to get a sense of the atmosphere and facilities before their visit. The official images and descriptions from the city mainly show an outdoor pool that thrives on greenery, shade, and open spaces. Particularly defining are the shady trees on the large total area of 14,000 square meters. This is not a small addition but an essential part of the character of the facility because the trees provide noticeable relief on hot days. In addition, there is a pool measuring 10 by 20 meters. It is rather compact but fits perfectly into a family outdoor pool where quality of stay, clarity, and tranquility count more than size. The municipal text also describes a large playground, which is an important complement for children to the water. This makes the Old Town Pool a facility where parents and children can use the same place differently: swimming, playing, resting, or simply spending the summer day together. For the search intent around images and impressions, this mix is particularly decisive. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/tourismus-kultur-freizeit/freizeit-sport-gesundheit/baeder/))

Recent reports from the city make it clear that the play area has not only been created but has also been specifically developed. The entire area has been revamped and equipped with new play offerings for children. Large sun sails cover both the paddling pool and the sand play area, which is a real plus, especially on sunny days. This creates an outdoor pool image that focuses less on athletic performance and more on relaxed family time. The seating and lounging options have also been expanded, making the stay more pleasant and giving the pool an almost park-like character. The official photos reflect this impression: play, water, shade, and enough space for breaks. Those traveling with children will find here not a loud event backdrop but a clear summer pool that invites you to linger. In search engines, such visual impressions are often decisive because users want to see before their visit whether the pool appears more classic, modernized, or family-oriented. With the Old Town Pool Bayreuth, the answer is clearly family-oriented with a historical core. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/altstadtbad-oeffnet-und-bietet-viel-neues/))

Access, Parking, and Barrier-Free Access

For many visitors, the question of access and parking is almost as important as that of entry. The Old Town Pool is located on Fantaisiestraße in Bayreuth, and the city reports that as part of the improvements, two parking spaces for people with mobility impairments have been created with access from Bamberger Straße. A new entrance for bicycles and strollers was also created there. This is practical because it facilitates access to the pool not only for drivers but also for families with strollers and cyclists. The pathways have been designed to be barrier-free wherever possible, emphasizing the character of an open and accessible recreational facility. This information is particularly valuable for people with mobility restrictions, as it shows that the pool has been designed to be not only beautiful but also usable. The specific access should therefore always be read in conjunction with Fantaisiestraße and Bamberger Straße, as the most important access points are concentrated there. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/altstadtbad-startet-in-die-freibadsaison/))

Those traveling by car in Bayreuth also benefit from the fact that the city generally has many parking spaces in the city center. The city states that within 500 meters of the city center, there are over 6,000 public and private parking spaces in parking garages, underground garages, parking lots, and along the streets. While this is not a direct statement about a specific parking space right at the Old Town Pool, it helps to contextualize the urban environment. For visiting the outdoor pool, it is important that the facility itself offers a clear solution for specific target groups with two barrier-free parking spaces and is also prepared for bicycle and stroller access. This makes the Old Town Pool fit well into an urban environment where short distances are intended, and visitors can arrive flexibly. In the SEO search for "Old Town Pool Bayreuth parking" or "Old Town Pool Bayreuth access," these points are relevant because they describe the realistic entry into the visit: address, access, and the existing facilitations for various modes of arrival. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/rathaus-buergerservice/verkehr-oepnv/parken-in-der-innenstadt/?utm_source=openai))

History of the Old Town Pool and Its Significance for Bayreuth

The Old Town Pool is not just an outdoor pool but a piece of Bayreuth's city history. The city states that the facility has opened its doors to the citizens of Bayreuth every summer since 1909. This long tradition shapes the self-understanding of the pool to this day. So, anyone swimming here or lying on the sunbathing lawn is not visiting an interchangeable recreational spot but a facility with history, recognizability, and local attachment. This is particularly evident in the description by Mayor Thomas Ebersberger, who referred to the Old Town Pool as a piece of Bayreuth's local color and pointed to its role as a popular family offering. This combination of history and social function is what makes it appealing: The pool is not only old but remains relevant because it has been and continues to be a familiar place of summer for many generations. Therefore, those looking for background information will find not only numbers here but also a hint at the emotional significance of the facility for the city. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/altstadtbad-startet-in-die-freibadsaison/))

Another aspect of the history is the organizational development. At the beginning of 2024, the responsibility for the traditional facility was transferred to the city gardening office, which, together with the municipal building office, has given the pool a new face. This is important because it makes clear that the Old Town Pool is not left to its own devices but is actively managed and developed. The city gardening office is generally responsible for the care, preservation, and development of the city's greenery in Bayreuth and oversees parks, green spaces, and playgrounds, among other things. In this context, the Old Town Pool is not an isolated special facility but part of an urban open space strategy where green quality, stay quality, and family benefits are considered together. For the search intent around history and special features, this is a valuable context: The Old Town Pool Bayreuth stands for continuity but also for careful modernization. The facility thus does not appear either museum-like or arbitrary but as a vibrant part of Bayreuth's summer life. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/altstadtbad-startet-in-die-freibadsaison/))

Visiting Tips for Summer, Holidays, and Changeable Weather

The Old Town Pool Bayreuth reveals its charm especially on days when there is time for a relaxed stay. With many trees, a large sunbathing area, and shady spots, it is perfect for longer summer afternoons. Those coming with children benefit from the fact that the play area, paddling pool, and sand zone are designed together and protected by sun sails. For a quiet visit, an early start on weekends, holidays, or during vacation times is often worthwhile because the pool opens earlier but is naturally in higher demand. At the same time, the pool is particularly ideal for spontaneous visits due to the free entry, where you don’t have to plan or book for long. This makes the visit very accessible: just arrive, bring swimwear, settle in the shade, play, swim, and leave without a financial threshold. The municipal notices overall show an outdoor pool that is deliberately kept easily accessible and that is why it fits so well into the Bayreuth summer. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/tourismus-kultur-freizeit/freizeit-sport-gesundheit/baeder/))

When considering the Old Town Pool not just as a place but as a search topic, it quickly becomes clear why so many variants like opening hours, photos, parking, prices, and history appear side by side. The pool indeed offers enough points of connection for all these questions: a clear seasonal opening, free use, family-friendly facilities, barrier-free access, and a historically grown location. This mix ensures that it is in high demand in local searches. For visitors, this mainly means one thing: The Old Town Pool Bayreuth is not a complicated excursion destination but an uncomplicated summer pool with high recognition value. Those checking current times, considering the weather, and thinking about access via Fantaisiestraße and Bamberger Straße will experience a very direct, very Bayreuth-typical outdoor pool day here. And those who look at the photos beforehand will already get a good impression of what the pool is all about: old trees, plenty of greenery, a manageable pool, and an atmosphere that is more relaxed than loud. That is precisely its strength. ([bayreuth.de](https://www.bayreuth.de/altstadtbad-startet-in-die-freibadsaison/))

The renovation of the old town in Bayreuth is a complete success and a true showcase project for successful urban development. With a lot of sensitivity for the historical building substance and a clear view of modern requirements, a harmonious interplay of tradition and future has been created here. What is particularly impressive is how lovingly the listed buildings have been restored. The facades shine in new splendor without losing their original character. At the same time, the infrastructure has been upgraded to modern standards – barrier-free access, modern lighting, and improved traffic management ensure that residents and visitors alike feel at home. The cityscape has also benefited enormously: new recreational areas, greener squares, and an increased quality of life make Bayreuth's old town a place where history remains tangible and alive. The successful combination of cultural heritage and urban life makes Bayreuth's old town more attractive than ever.

I have been a loyal visitor to your old town swimming pool for many years and have always felt comfortable and treated with respect there. I am all the more disappointed and angry about an incident that occurred today, 19.07.25, which I would like to bring to your attention as a complaint. My son was excluded from the swimming pool for the rest of the day by the lifeguard Martin from the afternoon shift due to two jumps from the edge of the pool. I am aware of the rules and understand that safety comes first, but I consider this measure to be disproportionately strict. A time-limited consequence, such as a one-hour water ban, would have been more understandable and pedagogically sensible, especially for a child. When I politely addressed the lifeguard about this, he reacted in an extremely disrespectful manner. He came very close to me, did not keep any distance, and confronted me in a derogatory and intimidating way. When I asked him to keep his distance, he completely ignored this. What shocked me even more was his comment: he said in essence that I should "not come here"; he has no right to tell me where I should go or not. His behavior was in no way professional or appropriate for someone working in a social profession and dealing with families and children every day. Even more serious, however, is the impression that his behavior was not only disrespectful but also motivated by xenophobia. As a mother with a migration background, I expect that my child and I are treated equally and with respect in public institutions, regardless of our origin. In my view, Mr. Martin is unsuitable for service in a public place with diverse visitor groups with this attitude and approach. I sincerely hope that this does not reflect the general tone of interaction in your swimming pool and that appropriate measures will be taken.

We have really enjoyed coming here with our children over the past few years. Very relaxed and friendly. The investments for this season (seating options, umbrellas, changing rooms,...) have really upgraded the pool.
