Silent Film Fun in Bayreuth: When Images Become Music
On November 20, 2026, the Chamber Music Hall at Steingraeber & Söhne House Bayreuth will be transformed into a special cinema hall with a concert atmosphere. Christoph Wünsch accompanies the silent film comedies Limousine Love and Dog Shy with live piano and computer-controlled piano sounds.
Film Comedy Meets Improvised Stage Performance
The two two-act films from the 1920s rely on precise timing, expressive body language, and rapid misunderstandings. Without spoken dialogues, the dramaturgy arises from glances, movements, and music. The piano comments on the action, propels it forward, sets surprising accents, and amplifies every comic twist.
Christoph Wünsch at the Piano
The pianist, composer, and jazz musician Christoph Wünsch combines improvisational freedom with musical precision. In conjunction with computer-controlled piano sounds, a multifaceted sound emerges, balancing chamber music transparency, rhythmic intensification, and modern sound technology. The synchronization of film, live performance, and electronically controlled piano passages makes every moment immediately experienceable.
Intimate Acoustics in Steingraeber House
The Chamber Music Hall of the traditional Steingraeber & Söhne House provides the perfect setting for this unusual concert experience. The concentrated acoustics, proximity to the stage, and historical atmosphere blend film history with vibrant music practice. This creates an audience atmosphere that fluctuates between nostalgic cinematic flair, subtle situational comedy, and focused attention.
An Evening for Film and Music Lovers
The performance is aimed at everyone who wants to experience silent films not as a museum memory but as a vibrant stage art. For about two hours, historical film comedy, improvised conducting at the piano, and computer-assisted sound design will come together.
Conclusion: The audience can expect a humorous and musically unusual concert experience featuring two classics of the silent film era. Anyone wishing to experience the magic of moving images with immediate live music should not miss this special evening in Bayreuth.
