When House Wahnfried Begins to Shine
With "Wahnfried Lights Up!", Urbanscreen transforms the facade of the Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth into an immersive media installation of light, image, and sound. The projection is part of the anniversary program "50/150 – Utopia and Echo" and leads through art history, ideological history, and the present at the memorial site Wahnfried.
Projection Mapping as an Artistic Experience
The video animation precisely connects architecture and digital content. The facade itself becomes a bearer of the narrative. In the 15- to 20-minute light show, an artistic experience unfolds, combining historical depth with impressive spatial effects.
From Richard Wagner's Vision to the Present
In six chapters, the production traces the history of the site: from Richard Wagner's idea of a dedicated artistic place to the early Bayreuth Festivals, and the ideological entanglements during National Socialism. The destruction in World War II, the reconstruction, and the history of the museum are also made visible.
A Place that Brings Together Memory and Art
House Wahnfried is not just a historical building but a central place in German cultural history. The projection opens an aesthetic access to this complex past and creates an immersive contemplation of the work, balancing documentary precision and poetic imagery.
An Evening for Art Enthusiasts and Wagner Visitors
The projection runs nightly from July 23 to August 26, 2026, after sunset until approximately 11 PM. Admission is free. Visitors to Bayreuth during the festival summer will experience an atmospheric highlight that impressively combines cultural education, media art, and historical reflection.
A visit is worthwhile for anyone looking to discover art in public space, light art, and the history of House Wahnfried in a contemporary form. "Wahnfried Lights Up!" makes Bayreuth's cultural heritage visible and invites everyone to experience the projection live on site.
