Discovering Gingerbread Spices from a Botanical Perspective

On Sunday, December 6, 2026, the Ecological-Botanical Garden of the University of Bayreuth invites you to a special tour: Under the microscope, popular gingerbread spices and the plants from which they originate will be observed closely. Using binoculars, a fascinating view of botanical structures, that usually remain hidden in daily life, is revealed.

When Spices Become Research Objects

The event combines sensory Christmas memories with scientific knowledge. Aromas, shapes, and plant materials move into the spotlight of a concentrated examination of nature. The binoculars enlarge details and make visible the diversity of plant structures.

Botanical Insights into the Christmas Season

Gingerbread spices represent a long cultural history of seasoning, trading, and baking. In the tour, botanical education, everyday knowledge, and aesthetic experience come together. The plants are not only viewed as ingredients but as independent biological entities.

An Artistic Experience of Nature Observation

The exhibition atmosphere in the exhibition room of the Ecological-Botanical Garden creates a calm setting for precise observation. Colors, surfaces, shapes, and structures gain a new presence under optical magnification. The artistic experience arises here through the careful observation of natural forms.

Conclusion: A Journey of Discovery for Curious Senses

The tour promises cultural education, botanical expertise, and an unusual aesthetic experience around familiar gingerbread spices. Those who wish to perceive plants more consciously in everyday life and discover their hidden details will experience an entertaining and educational nature experience in the Ecological-Botanical Garden.
