Bayreuth opens the festive Advent season
On Monday, November 23, 2026, the Christmas season begins on the City Square Bayreuth: The ceremonial opening of the Christmas Market invites visitors at 5 PM to the action stage on Maximilianstraße.
Festive start with Christkind and Lord Mayor
The Bayreuth Christmas Market will be opened by the Lord Mayor, the Bayreuth Christkind, and the choir of the Graserschule. The musical contribution of the school choir gives the opening a warm, family-friendly market atmosphere and prepares for the Advent weeks in the city center.
Christmas spirit on the City Square
Around the action stage, the shopping experience of the traditional Bayreuth Christmas Market begins. Festively decorated stalls, wintry scents, and the regional diversity of the market stands shape the opening. Visitors combine their opening visit with a stroll down Maximilianstraße and discover festive treats, gift ideas, and handicrafts.
Traditional market in the Bayreuth city center
The Christmas Market will take place from November 23 to December 23, 2026. From Monday to Thursday, the market is open from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM, and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM. A special light ambiance is created by the over six-kilometer-long light chain in the city center.
Accessible and family-friendly
The event location is equipped with accessible toilets, parking spaces for bicycles, strollers, walking aids, and wheelchairs, as well as accessibility for blind and visually impaired people. Seating and standing places are available.
Conclusion
The opening of the Christmas Market connects urban tradition, musical Advent kickoff, and the special market atmosphere of Bayreuth. Experience the start of the Christmas season live on the City Square and get into the Advent weeks together with family and friends.
