Science Against Fascism: Bayreuth invites to reflect together
How much responsibility does science bear in a democratic society? The event Science Against Fascism brings this central question to the Africa Research Center at the University of Bayreuth on December 1, 2026. Three keynote speeches will open the evening, followed by a space for questions, discussions, and personal exchange.
Three Impulses, a common view of the present
The event format combines scientific assessment with social engagement. The keynote speeches provide different perspectives on fascist ideologies, democratic responsibility, and the role of research and teaching. At the center is a fact-based exchange that makes complex developments understandable and encourages personal reflection.
Open Discussion at the FZA
After the lectures, the evening opens up for questions from the audience. The discussion round provides an opportunity to deepen thoughts, question positions, and engage in conversation. This connection of expertise, discussion, and direct encounter shapes the event atmosphere at the Africa Research Center.
Science as a democratic responsibility
The nationwide initiative Science Against Fascism understands universities as places of knowledge transfer and spaces of democratic responsibility. In 2026, events were also organized at the University of Bayreuth that addressed academic freedom, right-wing extremist movements, and social engagement. The event planning is explicitly aimed at students, university members, and the interested public.
Conclusion
Visitors can expect an informative evening with three keynote speeches, thoughtful inspirations, and an open discussion. Those who want to better understand current social debates and discuss the responsibility of science together will experience an important event at the FZA Bayreuth. Admission is free.
